When you move into a new home, the house should be clean but it's probably a good idea to do a thorough cleaning on your own to ensure that the space meets your standards. Here are 10 things you should consider cleaning when you move into a new home:
- Kitchen Appliances: This includes the refrigerator, oven, stove, and dishwasher. Make sure to clean the inside and outside of each appliance to remove any dirt, dust, or grime. Don't forget to pull out the appliances if possible so you can clean under them as well.
- Cabinets and Drawers: Wipe down the inside and outside of all cabinets and drawers with a damp cloth or cleaning solution. Do this in the bathroom, kitchen and anywhere you have a built-in.
- Countertops: Clean and sanitize all kitchen and bathroom countertops.
- Bathrooms: Clean and sanitize the toilets, sinks, showers, and bathtubs in each bathroom.
- Floors: Sweep or vacuum all floors and then mop or scrub them clean. This includes hardwood, tile, and carpeted floors.
- Walls: Wipe down all walls with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or grime.
- Windows: Clean all windows, both inside and outside, to remove any dust or dirt.
- Light Fixtures and Ceiling Fans: Remove any dust or cobwebs that may have accumulated on light fixtures and ceiling fans. I like to dust the light bulbs as well.
- Air Ducts and Vents: Consider having the air ducts and vents cleaned by a professional to ensure that the air in your new home is clean and healthy to breathe.
- Outdoor Spaces: If your new home has a yard or outdoor space, make sure to clean it up by removing any debris or trash. Weed the gardens and mow the lawn.
