Characteristics of a Colonial Home
One of the many different house styles you'll find in Minneapolis is a colonial. We happen to live in a classic colonial home in Minneapolis which is why I'm highlighting this style first. There are several different versions or subsets of a colonial home; English, French, Spanish, Dutch and Georgian and we have them all here in Minneapolis. Ours is the original colonial style home and was built in 1938.
Traditionally built the classic colonial home is best known its symmetry. They are rectangular with the front door front and center and often 2-3 stories tall. The living spaces are on the first floor with the staircase in the center and a dining room and kitchen on one side and the living room with a fireplace on the other. A lot of colonial homes in Minneapolis also have a sun room off to one side. The bedrooms are located on the upper levels. You will often find shutters on the exteriors of a colonial home and some sort of decoration over the front door.
Here are a few of my favorite colonial homes in Minneapolis.
I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about the colonial home.
